FAQs

Q: How do I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

  • Eat a healthy meal at least 2-3 hours before the tattoo, and try to limit your caffeine intake on the day.
  • Get a good night's sleep so you can be well-rested for the tattoo session.
  • Do not take any blood thinners, antibiotics, or similar medicines. If you're on medication and unsure, please consult your doctor before your appointment.
  • Pre-emptively moisturise your skin on the days leading up to your appointment, but arrive with clean skin on the day. Shower before your appointment, and shave the area where you'll get tattooed to help speed up the process of starting your tattoo on the day.
  • Avoid sun exposure leading up to your appointment.
  • Do not consume any drugs or alcohol

Our artists cannot tattoo your skin if;

  • You are under 18/cannot provide identification upon arrival at our studio.
  • You are drunk or on illicit drugs.
  • You are sunburned or injured in the spot you'll be getting tattooed.

Q: How do I know which artist to book?

A: As an artist collective, we each have our own distinct styles of tattooing. A tattoo is a creative collaboration between you and the artist. We recommend checking out each artist's portfolio of work, including the work on their Instagram page, to see who will be the right fit for your new ink.

Q: How long does a tattoo take to heal?

A: The healing process generally takes around two weeks for the surface to heal, but the skin underneath can take slightly longer. Fine line or more delicate styles of tattoos will recover faster than black work, full colour, traditional designs, or any tattoo with heavy saturation and thicker lines.

Q: Do you do colour tattoos?

A: Of course! We specialise in a wide range of artistic and customised tattoo services, including colour tattoos. When you contact an artist or during a consultation, the artist will work with you to create a uniquely personalised design that reflects your style and preferences.

Q: How do you determine pricing?

A: All Smoke & Mirrors Co. artists offer competitive pricing based on your next dream tattoo's size, complexity, and placement. Our artists use personalised forms to gather information regarding the type of tattoo you're after so that they can provide you with a more accurate quote based on your unique tattoo design.

Our studio minimum price for all bookings is $100 for a 20-minute appointment. This covers the set-up costs of preparing your tattoo using exceptional hygiene practices and maintaining strict infection control standards.

Each artist within the Smoke & Mirrors collective will set their own prices, and it is up to the individual artists' discretion whether they charge you per piece or an hourly rate. Each artist will have their own set rate for half-day or full-day bookings, so please get in touch with your preferred artist for their specific pricing.

Q: How do I care for my new tattoo?

A: Each artist will discuss their preferred method of aftercare with you during your tattoo appointment. We also have brochures on the desk as you enter the studio and offer Hustle Butter tattoo balm/aftercare for sale.

Q: Where are you located?

A: Our private studio is at 78 Days Road, Grange, QLD. Please remember that our artists operate by appointment only.

Please avoid dropping in without booking in advance, as each artist's hours can vary. When we're at the studio, we'll be working on someone's tattoo or consulting on their future work.

Q: Do you have on-site parking?

A: We do not offer on-site parking; however, there is a large car park down the road (on the other side of the Days Road & Kedron Brook Road intersection) where you can park for your scheduled tattoo appointment.

Q: Do you accept walk-ins?

A: Smoke & Mirrors operates as a collective of tattooists, with each artist booking their own schedules. Because of this, we are not currently accepting walk-ins. If you'd like to be tattooed by one of our artists, please get in touch with the artist directly.

Q: What is a booking fee?

A: To secure a time slot with your preferred artist, you will need to pay a booking fee. The cost of the booking fee will vary based on the artist's stated amount. Tattoo sessions are important to us; we put our attention and care into every sitting, and collecting a booking fee will allow the artist to prepare in advance for your unique piece of tattoo art while assuring us that the client is committed to their designated appointment.

Q: How old do you have to be to get tattooed?

A: In Queensland, you must be 18 years or older to get a tattoo. It is illegal for our artists to tattoo anyone under 18, even with your parents' consent. When you arrive at the studio for your scheduled booking, you will be required to provide proof of identification.

Q: I sent an email/DM, but the artist hasn't responded yet. What do I do?

A: All artists at Smoke & Mirrors Tattoo Co. aim to respond to inquiries as soon as they can. We kindly ask for understanding during busy periods, when artists can be tattooing full days back to back and fall behind on response times. We will always endeavor to get back to you regarding a booking or query as soon as possible!
